The Mildred Trust creates equality of opportunity for people in rural areas.
Our longer-term objectives are:
- Reducing Food Insecurity
- Increasing social opportunities and participation for people
- Increasing local community partnerships and collective impact
What do we do?
- We manage Tenterden’s first Community Fridge, based at Tenterden Leisure Centre. Open to all, the community fridge reduces food waste, brings communities together, and provides an opportunity for everyone to access healthy food and save money.
- We run The Old School House Larder a local foodbank based jointly at Tenterden Family Hub and EC30. We offer free food, household and hygiene products to families with children under 18.
- We run a Community Shop (social supermarket) based at Tenterden Leisure Centre providing people with access to reduced cost groceries (people pay £1.50 for every £5.00 of groceries up to the value of £20.00).
- We provide access to emergency food provision.
- We also develop and support community activities including men's wellness groups, free children and young people’s activities and community partnerships with local people, projects and organisations.
